I am Emilia Coto, founder and lawyer at Sisu Legal. I became a lawyer because I see helping others as my purpose in life.

I am licensed to practice federal immigration law in both Canada and United States. Immigration law is all I focus on.

I have personally gone through the immigration process in both Canada and United States. As an immigrant, I understand the opportunities created by immigration and hope to help individuals, families, and businesses achieve their goals.

I take pride in my level of care for the clients that entrust me with their immigration application. I understand that immigrating is a big life-decision and one where family reunification or a big career opportunity is often at stake. I love the opportunity to work with families during this momentous experience.

To ensure a great client experience, I limit the number of cases I take at any given time. I want clients to truly feel cared for and not like just a number.

Growing up in an immigrant and entrepreneurial family, I understand the barriers to obtaining accessible legal services. In an effort to become part of the solution, I offer flat-fee pricing and payment plans, as well as the traditional choices.

Prior to starting the firm, I spent three years at a full-service, medium-sized firm in Windsor, Ontario. Before that, I was at a community legal clinic where my work focused on immigration and landlord and tenant law.

One of my proudest accomplishments was receiving the Women's Law Association of Ontario Avirl A. Farlam Advocacy Award for my involvement in the legal clinic. In particular, for my representation of vulnerable clients and obtaining large monetary settlements via mediation with opposing parties.

I have trial experience and have appeared as counsel before various tribunals and before the Superior Court of Justice.

My international work experience includes working at a social enterprise in Brazil and at the United Nations in Egypt.
